Since
the inaugural Meeting of 12th July 2007 the dads have met regularly
and explored a real breadth of poetic diversity. The majority of the
poems offered for consideration are established classics, so for anyone
looking for a good general introduction to "good" poetry and
poets this is a worthwhile reading list. There are also a few that even
avid poetry readers are unlikely to have come across and some that will
not be considered politically correct.
Voting on the poems
begins next month because we wish to present the poems in our considered
order of worth. That will involve some heated argument and the consumption
of a lot of red wine (not just the consumption - quite a lot of wine
has been spilled on the dads in the heat of argument - Richard receiving
two glasses in one night and finally tipping his own over his head).
If you enjoy exploring
the list of the best ever poems as much as we are enjoying compiling
it you have a lot of pleasure coming your way.
